Sri Lanka Volunteering Trip - July 2023

We have joined up with PlanMyGapYear to organise an amazing opportunity for our current Y10-12 students.

Here is a rough outline of what students will be doing whilst out there:

Your first week will have you based in the coastal town of Ambalangoda for the volunteering part of the trip and giving back to the local community. You will receive an orientation into life in Sri Lanka and an introduction into Buddhism before your volunteering begins. You will volunteer in the heart of the Ambalangoda community as you protect sea turtles, provide free English lessons for low-income village communities and roll up your sleeves on a renovation project. Each evening we will run cultural activities such as a cultural dance show and a traditional hands craft session.

After the first week of giving back to the Ambalangoda community, it will be time to explore the island further as the adventure travel begins in week two of your Sri Lanka expedition. Your adventure travel will begin with a visit to Galle Fort and then onto Mirissa beach for some R&R. An elephant safari will follow at Udawalawe National Park before you head to the hill country around Ella for some hiking, waterfalls, tea plantations and spectacular views. You will finish your 15 days in Sri Lanka exploring the cultural capital of Kandy. Everything is included in your 2-week Sri Lanka expedition from the airport transfers and meals to accommodation, entrance fees and cultural activities.

Students will be shown a launch video in tutor time next week, where they can take home extra information if interested. We will follow this up with a parents' information evening later in the term.
