Believing in Yourself: The key to success!

Have you ever noticed that when you really believe you can do something, it feels a lot easier to actually do it? That's the amazing power of self-belief! It means having a strong feeling inside that you are capable and can succeed, even when things are tricky. When you believe in yourself, you're more likely to try harder, keep going even if you make a mistake, and learn from everything. It’s like having a secret superpower that helps you face challenges head-on. If you truly think you can achieve something, you've already taken the biggest step towards making it happen.

Think about it in school: if you have a big test coming up and you believe you can do well, you'll probably study harder and feel more confident when you sit down to take it. Even if you don't know every answer, your belief helps you think clearly and try your best. It's the same in sports. Imagine you're on the football field, and your team is down by one goal. If you believe you can still score, you'll run faster, tackle harder, and look for opportunities. That strong belief can push you to make that winning shot or save the game, because your mind is telling your body, "Yes, we can do this!"

So the question is, “What areas of life and school would you like to believe in yourself more?”

Student Success Spotlight: ClassCharts Champions!

We’re thrilled to celebrate some of our most dedicated and hard working students who have recently redeemed their ClassCharts points for some of our top prizes! Their positive behaviour, commitment to learning, and consistent effort in school has truly paid off — and we couldn’t be prouder.

These rewards are not just prizes — they are a reflection of consistently following our school values of Kindness, Positivity and Belonging.

Points have now reset so keep your eye on the prize and start earning for next year.

Engineering Bridges

Ex-student Emily Harrison, now an engineer with AECOM, visited with colleagues, to run a bridge building enrichment with year 9 students. The students worked together, reading and interpreting technical plans, finding the appropriate parts and building the bridge. The completed structure was 15m long and weight-bearing, with students walking over it.

Hello from the Year 7 Pastoral Team

Myself and Mrs Addecott, just wanted to send a little update from the new Head of Year and Assistant Head.

We have now had the honour of visiting and getting to know all of your sons and daughters and look forward to working with them across the upcoming Sports Day and Year 7 Activities week events. We have been welcomed by the wonderful year 7 tutor team too.

We are also privileged to be holding the final Year 7 celebration assembly in a few weeks and look forward to celebrating attendance, sports day achievements, Class charts awards and tutor recognition for promoting our school values of Positivity, Kindness and Belonging.

We look forward to seeing your child blossom over the coming years and working with you all.

Finally, I want to say a huge thank you to Miss Lewis Head of Year 7 and Miss Martin Asst Head, they have been an excellent team and set the foundations for your children brilliantly.

Kind regards

Mrs S Scott – Head of Year 7 into 8.

Student Excellence

Rory March in Year 10 has been selected to train with the South West Saxons touch rugby team and at the moment is a non-travelling reserve for the national competition in August.

He will be training with the squad over the summer and doing some training matches against Wales in July.

Great job Rory and we can't wait to hear all about it.

Transition Week

It was an absolute pleasure to be able to host over 550 Year 5 students from our local primary schools last week as they visited us to get a taster of what secondary school is like as a John of Gaunt student. We had a fun filled week where students explored different animals and their habitats with zoo lab, baking cookies in food technology, recreated parts of history with a real Viking, solved a crime in Science and worked together to release a falcon in English.

Students were looked after by our current Year 7 students and had a real insight into all things JOG. They were able to have their questions answered by students who went to their primary school and were in their position a few years ago.

Thank you to all of the primary staff who brought their students along, they were incredibly behaved and we hope you had a lovely day. We have another opportunity in October for students and their families to come and see what makes our school so special. More information will follow.

This year the Wiltshire and Swindon Youth Commission (WSCY) have been working on a survey addressing the question “What do young people think drives crime and vulnerability”.

They have worked together as a group to compile several questions that they need young peoples help in answering.

The WSYC will be using the results of the survey to present at their showcase in July. To get the best understanding of how young people are feeling about crime and vulnerability within their communities, it is important they reach as many young people as possible.
