NEWSLETTER 26 - 6 May 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you know it has been a slightly shorter week this week after the bank holiday weekend and our inset day on Tuesday. That said, our Year 11 Art students did attend school in order to start their exam.

We have been really pleased to return to school with only a handful of Covid cases. Whilst I recognise we are still in the pandemic it is pleasing to see so few cases amongst our staff and students.

This weekend our fantastic Ten Tors students are hoping to complete a 38-mile route with Mr Gray and Mr Lord. Thankfully the weather is looking nice!

Next week, amongst other activities we are looking forward to the Year 7 parents' evening on Thursday. If you are a parent who has not yet signed up, please ensure you do.

As always, I hope you are able to enjoy a relaxing weekend,

Best wishes,

Paul Skipp

Headteacher

HPV IMMUNISATIONS

This information is for children in Year 8 only.

Due to numerous Year 8 pupils missing their HPV Vaccination earlier this week, the School Immunisation Team are returning to school on Tuesday 10th May to do a catch-up session.

For more information regarding this important immunisation which helps to prevent certain cancers in later life and to enable your child to receive this vaccine it is ESSENTIAL that you complete the online consent following the link below.  This link will be closed on 4th May, and it is essential you give consent before this date or your child will not be able to have the immunisation. Email/telephone consent on the day is not possible.

If you have already given consent you do not need to do this again.

If you do NOT want your child to receive the vaccine then please also complete a form stating that you do not want them to receive the vaccine, this means we will not chase further.

Lunchtime #DomIn60Minutes - 13th May!

Join Dr. Dominique Thompson and Cam Adair for a fascinating and engaging conversation exploring young people’s mental health and wellbeing, with a focus on gaming and online gaming addiction.

Image item

Taking place on Zoom and priced at only £15, Dom will host this ‘in conversation with’ event, with expert special guest Cam Adair. Please note that, unlike other #DomIn60Minutes events, this takes place in the afternoon - we hope you can join us over lunch for the session starting at 12.30pm on Friday 13th May!

Online gaming is something many parents worry about, not least because it can feel relatively unknown and separate from their own lives.

Parents worry about the types of games, the violence, the amount of time spent online and on a sofa, and the risks of strangers interacting with their children. Cam Adair is a world learning expert on gaming, and will be in conversation with Dom to discuss all these topics and more.

Ask your questions, hear Cam's top tips and get the information and reassurance you need during this hour-long webinar.

At this #DomIn60Minutes event, parents and carers will gain really useful practical information and advice about approaching difficult situations involving young people's emotional health issues.

Questions from attendees are welcome in advance (details on how to submit a question are provided in your booking confirmation), and during the event via the Zoom chat function. All questions will be anonymised for the webinar and the question submission form will close 48 hours before the event (12.30pm, 11th May).
